Weathering Steel
Application
Thick coat metal effect colouring system comprising Phase I Base material and Phase II Activator. May be applied to virtually any substrate imaginable.
Product properties
Jansen Weathering Steel may be used almost wherever that individual rusty look is required inside or outside. After at least 3 Phase I coatings, the treated surface may also be used as a magnet board. On the inside, a top coat (see final coat) may be applied for stain protection. To preserve the character of a slight constant change of surface appearance, we recommend allowing exterior surfaces to continue weathering. The activator may also be used to individually rust bare carbon steel or iron. Every surface is unique..
Binder base
Phase I (Base material): Special acrylate with iron particles. Phase II (Activator): oxidant. Aqua insulating and adhesive primer, colourless (top coat): cationic dispersion.
Degree of gloss
Phase I: matt. Aqua insulating and adhesive primer: semi gloss.
Drying
(20°C 60% rel. humidity)
Phase I (Base material): dust-dry after approx. 30 minutes. dry to the touch after approx. 2 – 3 hours. Next coat after 5 – 6 hours. Phase II (Activator): Next coating: 16 hours after last work step. Aqua insulating and adhesive primer, colourless (top coat): dust-dry after approx. 30 minutes. dry to the touch after approx. 2 – 3 hours. May be worked on after 5 – 6 hours.
Spreading rate
Phase I: ca. 2.5 m²/kg for single application. Phase II: ca. 10 m²/kg. Aqua insulating and adhesive primer: 12 – 14 m²/l per coat.
Type of application
Brushing: Use a brush with natural bristles. Rolling: Use a long or short pile roller, depending on structure required. Do not re-use equipment for other painting jobs. Spraying: A finishing varnish should be applied thinly only. (for more details, see Technical Information Sheet).
Shade
Phase I (base material): dark grey. Phase II (activator): clear, slightly greenish. Top coat Jansen Aqua insulating and adhesive primer: transparent.
